glass roomsYour room can be either single or double glazed. With double glazing there is the obvious advantage of more heat retention, although the absolute simplicity of single glazing can give a very striking look. The double glazing for the sides is made up of structural units which means they do not need to be joined with glazing bars, they just need a silicone joint. The inner leaf is either 12 or 15mm with a 16mm air gap and an outer leaf of 6mm K glass (a coating that retains heat) their U value is 1.8. The units are secured back onto the internal frame with an adjustable stainless steel stay, so movement in the frame can be taken up. The roof units are 10mm on the top and 6mm innerleaf, again K glass is used to achieve a U value of 1.8 but also the outerleaf is 'Activ' Pilkingtons 'self cleaning glass' (this helps to break down organic matter). Another coating which can be considered for the roof units is 'solar control', this prevents heat coming into the building and is more effective than blinds on a south facing room. Single glazing is 15mm toughened glass, very strong and very simple, and a lot cheaper. |
